President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), alongside Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, held a virtual meeting with the families of the KRI Nanggala-402 crew, located in Sidoarjo. This occurred during the Honorary Hiu Kencana Brevet Award Ceremony and the presentation of the Samkarya Nugraha Medal of Honor to the KRI Nanggala-402 aboard the KRI RJW-992 on Saturday (September 28).
During the event, Jokowi inquired about the government assistance provided to the families, particularly in relation to housing and educational facilities.
“Mrs. Irma, good morning to you and all the families. I saw the housing earlier, and it looks very nice. I would like to ask directly—how is the current condition of the home you’ve moved into?” the President asked Irma, one of the aid recipients.
“The house is in great condition, and the facilities, praise be to God, are close to the health center (BK), the medical clinic (BP), and the school,” responded Mrs. Irma Dewi, the widow of Captain Adi Sonata (the Navigation Officer of KRI Nanggala-402).
“What do you mean by great condition?” the President further inquired.
“The housing is well-maintained, and we have a reliable water supply, along with other necessary amenities,” Irma explained.
“Are you able to access education smoothly?” the President continued.
“Alhamdulillah, we are able to pursue education without any issues,” Irma responded.
“How far is the nearest medical facility?” asked Jokowi. “Only about 1.5 to 2 kilometers,” Irma answered.
It should be noted that the housing assistance was personally delivered by Prabowo on April 20, 2022. A total of 53 housing units were specifically provided to the families and heirs of the KRI Nanggala-402 crew.
“With the utmost respect, I hand over the keys and certificates to the families of the KRI Nanggala-402 crew. May these homes bring benefit and improve their living conditions,” Prabowo said during the handover. (RR)
