Prabowo Subianto Staunchly Fights Smuggling, Government Secures IDR 3.9 Trillion in Potential State Losses

Jakarta – Through a concerted effort between law enforcement and the Ministry of Finance, particularly the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC), authorities have conducted 31,275 anti-smuggling actions in the customs and excise sector from January to November 2024. This extensive initiative reflects a strong commitment to fulfilling the “Asta Cita” mission set forth by President Prabowo Subianto.

The DJBC has collaborated closely with the National Police (Polri), Attorney General’s Office, Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and other relevant institutions, all of which have joined forces within the Anti-Smuggling Prevention and Eradication Desk.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani reported that the total value of confiscated goods amounted to IDR 6.1 trillion, with a potential state loss of IDR 3.9 trillion prevented.

“Since the start of 2024, we have carried out 31,275 anti-smuggling operations in customs and excise, with the total value of seized goods reaching IDR 6.1 trillion and potential state losses of IDR 3.9 trillion,” said Sri Mulyani during a press conference on the outcomes of the Anti-Smuggling Prevention and Eradication Desk, held in Jakarta on Thursday, November 14.

Of the enforcement actions taken by DJBC in 2024, 12,490 involved import violations, with a total seized value of IDR 4.6 trillion, primarily in textiles and textile products.

In the export sector, 382 enforcement actions took place, valued at IDR 255 billion, predominantly involving flora and fauna commodities. Additionally, 178 enforcement actions targeted customs facilities, with goods valued at IDR 38 billion, again dominated by textiles and textile-related products.

In the excise sector, 18,255 enforcement actions were carried out, with goods totaling IDR 1.1 trillion. Cigarettes were the primary focus, with approximately 710 million cigarette sticks seized.

Across these enforcement efforts, DJBC has launched 183 criminal investigations, resulting in the indictment of 193 suspects.

During the same press conference, Sri Mulyani highlighted that the Anti-Smuggling Prevention and Eradication Desk recorded 283 enforcement actions between November 4 and 11, 2024.

“This is within just a one-week period,” she emphasized.

Key commodities intercepted during this multi-agency initiative included garments, textiles, electronic machinery, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, and narcotics. The estimated value of seized goods was IDR 49 billion, with potential state losses of IDR 10.3 billion effectively averted. (RR)
