After a decade-long negotiation process, Indonesia and the European Union have officially reached a political agreement to conclude the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This agreement paves the way for broader market access for Indonesian products across Europe. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, along with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, announced the breakthrough at a joint press conference in Brussels. President Prabowo highlighted the significance of this achievement amid global uncertainties and emphasized the successful reconciliation of economic interests between both parties. President von der Leyen expressed her appreciation for Prabowo’s leadership and described CEPA as an ambitious and timely free trade agreement. The agreement is expected to provide broader market access for Indonesian products in various sectors such as agriculture, automotive, and services. With a combined market of 730 million people between Indonesia and the EU, the implementation of CEPA is seen as a potential game-changer in trade relations between the two regions. Prabowo expressed hopes for the signing and implementation of CEPA in Brussels as a symbol of long-term commitment between the two partners.
