LEMBATA – Gunung Ile Lewotolok, located in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara or NTT, reportedly erupted with a height of hundreds of meters.
Quoted from Antara, the Mount Ile Lewotolok Monitoring Post in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province reported that the volcano erupted again with an observed ash column of approximately 400 meters at the peak.
“At 05.27 WITA, Mount Ile Lewotolok erupted again with an observed ash column of approximately 400 meters at the peak or approximately 1,823 meters above sea level,” said the Officer of the Mount Ile Lewotolok Volcano Monitoring Post, Stanis Ara Kian, in his report received by ANTARA in Kupang, Tuesday morning.
He said that based on observations, the observed ash column was gray to black in color with a thick intensity leaning towards the northwest.
Furthermore, he added in his report that the eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 24.5 millimeters with a duration of approximately one minute 35 seconds.
“If the sound of the eruption is weak,” he said.
According to him, on Monday (13/11) at 16.33 WITA, an eruption also occurred with an ash column of about 500 meters at the peak.
He added that the volcano, which had erupted again at the end of November 2021, is currently at Level II status, or alert.
Therefore, they issued a recommendation for the residents around Mount Lewotolok as well as visitors, climbers, and tourists not to enter or engage in activities within a two-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ile Lewotolok’s activity.
Meanwhile, the people in three villages at the foot of the mountain, such as Lamawolo Village, Lamatokan Village, and Jontona Village, are advised to always be wary of the potential threat of lava flows and hot clouds from the eastern part of the peak or crater of Mount Ile Lewotolok.
In addition, he reminded that there is still volcanic ash coming out of the crater of the mountain, and the public is advised to always wear a mask to avoid respiratory problems (ISPA) and other health issues. (Ant)
