President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that president-elect Prabowo Subianto is committed to the continuity and acceleration of the Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) development project. This commitment was expressed during a briefing with the Indonesian Cabinet, as well as TNI and Polri officials, at Istana Garuda in IKN, East Kalimantan, on Thursday, September 12.
“The IKN project is still under construction, and it could take 10, 15, or even 20 years to complete. However, the President-elect [Prabowo] has told me that he will speed it up,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi emphasized the importance of stability in achieving Indonesia’s vision of “Indonesia Maju” and the “Indonesia Emas 2045” agenda. He highlighted the need for synergy across all sectors, including TNI and Polri.
“Our country, Indonesia, needs stability to grow and to carry out development. A country in conflict cannot develop, it’s impossible,” Jokowi stressed.
He also underscored the crucial role of a professional TNI and Polri in ensuring security and stability for the nation.
“To maintain stability, we need a professional TNI and Polri, trusted by the people,” Jokowi added.
Additionally, Jokowi pointed out the significance of small, humanistic actions by TNI and Polri personnel in building public trust in these institutions. He cited examples such as a police officer collecting a school report for an orphan in Bandung and a TNI member assisting a mother whose motorcycle broke down in Pontianak.
“These are small but humanistic acts. A police officer helping an orphan in Bandung, a TNI officer assisting a mother with a broken motorcycle in Pontianak. These human touches help the community feel cared for and protected,” Jokowi explained.
Finally, Jokowi urged all parties to ensure a smooth transition from his administration to Prabowo’s leadership. He emphasized the importance of a seamless handover to avoid any disturbances.
“Ensure that the transition runs smoothly and without any disruption. Fully support the upcoming regional elections, maintain neutrality, and keep the situation conducive,” Jokowi concluded. (RR)
