President Prabowo Subianto recently launched the 80,081 Merah Putih Village Cooperatives program in Bentangan Village, Klaten, Central Java, with the aim of improving people’s welfare. He stressed the importance of avoiding the mistakes of the past, particularly the exploitation of cooperatives for personal gain, as seen in the New Order era. The new cooperative system is designed to be transparent and technologically-driven, allowing for real-time monitoring and auditing of all financial activities. President Prabowo highlighted the role of technology in ensuring strict oversight and eliminating any possibility of ‘Chairman Profits First’ mentality. He called on village heads to actively supervise the cooperative chairpersons to ensure the initiative serves its purpose of benefiting the community. By uniting the weak into a strong economic force, the cooperative system aims to revitalize Indonesia’s rural economy and decentralize the flow of resources from cities to villages. President Prabowo emphasized the need for collaboration and unity to make this movement a success, redirecting funds from the capital to the provinces and villages to drive the economy at the local level.
