President Prabowo Subianto of the Republic of Indonesia visited the Sentosa Funeral Home at RSPAD Gatot Subroto in Central Jakarta on Wednesday to pay his final respects to the late Kwik Kian Gie, a prominent economist and respected national statesman. Upon arrival, President Prabowo was warmly received by the relatives and family of the late Kwik Kian Gie before proceeding to the chamber where the deceased lay in repose. With reverence and deep respect, Prabowo honored Kwik Kian Gie, who was known for his advocacy of Pancasila-based economics during his lifetime. Kwik, an influential economist and political figure, passed away at the age of 90 on Monday evening at 10:00 PM (WIB).
President Prabowo expressed his feelings towards Kwik, highlighting that he was not just an economist but also a friend and mentor who provided valuable insights into the nation’s development path. Prabowo mentioned that Kwik’s ideas were dedicated to defending the Pancasila economy and upholding Article 33 of the Constitution. Reflecting on their personal connection, Prabowo emphasized the close bond he shared with Kwik, describing him as an extraordinary figure who offered advice and thoughtful perspectives consistently over the years.
Even in his final days, Kwik remained actively engaged, continuing to send messages and recommendations to the President. Prabowo recalled how Kwik had recently sent him a message via WhatsApp, sharing suggestions and thoughts, showcasing how Kwik never ceased to reach out and offer his wisdom. Praising Kwik’s contributions, President Prabowo acknowledged Indonesia’s loss of one of its finest sons and expressed his gratitude.
