Toyota’s electric car, the bZ4X, is reportedly set to receive a new name after two years since its global launch. According to a report from Drive on Monday, December 23, 2024, based on information from the Canadian website Motor Illustrated, the Regional Director of Toyota Canada for Quebec and Atlantic Canada, Patrick Ryan, stated that the name change for bZ4X will occur within the next year.
The North American media report also mentioned that this change will take place in the 2026 model year, indicating that the announcement will be made in the second half of the coming year. It is uncertain whether the bZ4X will adopt a revised badge under the Toyota Beyond Zero electric vehicle sub-brand – bZ – with its current name, or a completely different name.
Toyota recently introduced the Urban Cruiser, a small electric SUV for Europe which could potentially be named bZ2X or bZ3X. The bZ4X, featuring ‘4’ to signify its size similarity to the RAV4 and ‘X’ for ‘crossover SUV’, has not been the best-selling model for the American automotive giant. Approximately 13,500 bZ4X units were sold in the US during the first nine months of 2024, compared to 350,000 petrol and hybrid RAV4s.
In Australia, 914 electric cars were reported to have been sold this year from February to November 2024, as opposed to over 51,000 RAV4s during the same period. Despite the popularity of electric cars growing in Indonesia in recent years as environmentally friendly vehicles, the future of the bZ4X and its new name remains a topic of interest and speculation.
