Jakarta – A moment of warmth occurred when the President-elect of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau via a phone call on Wednesday (1/5).
During the warm conversation, Prabowo expressed his admiration for Justin and his father, Pierre Trudeau, who was also a politician and the 15th Prime Minister of Canada.
“It is an honor for me to receive your call directly, Justin Trudeau. I have always admired your father and you; your leadership; and I look forward to working and collaborating with you, Mr. Prime Minister,” Prabowo was quoted as saying on Wednesday (1/5).
Justin also expressed his respect for being able to converse with Prabowo, stating that Canada is ready to engage in closer cooperation with Indonesia. He mentioned the significance of Indonesia’s leadership both regionally and globally.
“I am very much looking forward to sitting down with you and meeting you so we can start off well. Indonesia’s leadership is important, not just regionally but also globally, and I want to learn and grow together,” said Justin.
“You have a lot to offer, your own experiences. I am very pleased to meet someone who remembers my father,” he added.
At the end of their conversation, the Canadian Prime Minister asked Prabowo to call him by his first name. “Mr. Prabowo, please call me Justin from now on,” he said.
Prabowo followed Justin’s request and expressed his eagerness to meet the Canadian Prime Minister in another opportunity.
“Thank you, Justin, I am truly honored. Thank you very much, I look forward to meeting you,” concluded Prabowo.
